Best eSIM for Czech Republic 2026: Prague, Brno & Bohemia

The Czech Republic doesn't get nearly enough love in travel eSIM discussions. Everyone writes about France, Italy, and Spain, but Czechia has some of the best mobile infrastructure in Central Europe and some surprisingly good deals if you know where to look. I spent two weeks there in April testing eSIM options across Prague, Brno, Cesky Krumlov, Karlovy Vary, and the Bohemian countryside. Here's the full picture.

Three Networks, One Clear Winner

Czechia has three main carriers: T-Mobile CZ, O2 CZ, and Vodafone CZ. All three cover the country well with 4G LTE, and 5G is now live in Prague, Brno, Ostrava, and Plzen. But T-Mobile CZ is the fastest by a significant margin.

I ran speed tests constantly during my trip. In central Prague on 5G, T-Mobile gave me 150-220 Mbps. O2 came in at 80-130 Mbps. Vodafone trailed at 70-100 Mbps.

Even on 4G the gap held. On Wenceslas Square at 2 PM on a Thursday during peak tourist congestion, T-Mobile's LTE delivered 65 Mbps versus 35 Mbps on O2 and 28 Mbps on Vodafone. These are real Speedtest app numbers, not carrier marketing claims.

For eSIM users, the network you land on depends entirely on your provider's roaming agreements. And that choice makes a real difference to your experience.

The eSIMs I Tested

Maya eSIM Czech Republic (10GB, $14) routed through T-Mobile CZ in my tests. The 10GB allocation gave me plenty of room for a two-week trip, and the per-GB cost of $1.40 was the best value I found. Speeds matched the fastest results I saw. If I had to pick one recommendation for most travelers, this would be it.

Nomad Czech Republic (5GB, $9) also connected to T-Mobile CZ. I was getting 180 Mbps on 5G near the Astronomical Clock. At $1.80/GB the pricing is competitive. The 5GB cap means you need to watch your usage a bit, but for a week of tourism that's comfortable if you're not streaming video constantly.

Airalo Czech Republic (3GB, $8 or 10GB, $18) connected to O2 CZ. Activation took about 90 seconds after landing at Vaclav Havel Airport. Coverage was excellent in Prague and Brno. The 3GB plan works for 4-5 days of normal tourist usage. The 10GB plan is better value at $1.80/GB versus $2.67/GB on the smaller tier.

Holafly Unlimited Czech Republic (about $6.10/day) routed through Vodafone CZ. Speeds were consistently the lowest of my test group, averaging 25-40 Mbps in Prague. Still perfectly usable, but at about $46 for a week, the cost adds up fast when most tourists use only 1-2 GB per day.

aloSIM Czech Republic (5GB, $11) connected to O2 CZ. Slightly pricier per-GB than Nomad or Maya, and O2's speeds sat in the middle. It worked fine but I don't see a compelling reason to choose it over the alternatives.

Prague: Flawless Coverage

Prague has outstanding mobile coverage. I tested in every major tourist area and couldn't find a dead spot. Old Town Square, Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, Petrin Hill, Vysehrad, Zizkov: all excellent.

Even underground in the Prague Metro, which runs deep with some stations 40+ meters below street level, I had 4G signal on every line. They've installed repeaters throughout the system and it works impressively well.

During peak hours between 11 AM and 3 PM, the busiest tourist areas see some congestion, but I never dropped below 20 Mbps on any network. Most of the time I was seeing 40-80 Mbps on 4G and 100-200 Mbps on 5G.

Free WiFi is abundant too. Most cafes, restaurants, and pubs offer it. Prague Airport has free WiFi that requires re-registration every 30 minutes, which is slightly annoying but functional. The major museums like the National Gallery, National Museum, and DOX all have decent free WiFi.

Brno: Underrated and Well Connected

Brno gets overlooked by most tourists, which is a shame. It's a fantastic city with a great food scene and none of Prague's crowds. All three networks provide strong 4G/5G across the city center. I spent three days there with zero connectivity issues.

The Spilberk Castle area had solid signal even in the underground casemates, which surprised me. The area around Zelny trh market and the cathedral were fine. Brno's large university population means cafes invest in good WiFi. Cafe Podnebi on Udolni street had the fastest cafe WiFi I found anywhere in the country at 85 Mbps.

Cesky Krumlov: Mostly Good With One Quirk

Cesky Krumlov is the fairy-tale medieval town that belongs on every Czech itinerary. Coverage is generally good throughout the old town, in restaurants, and at the castle.

The quirk: signal strength dips inside some of the older stone buildings. Walls that are 500 years old and a meter thick don't play nicely with radio waves. In my pension in the old town, I had one bar of 4G in my room but full signal on the terrace. Not a dealbreaker, but check signal before joining a video call from your hotel room.

The walk along the Vltava river south of town had patchy coverage. I lost signal for about 10 minutes on the trail to the Grafitovy Dul viewpoint. Beautiful hike though.

Karlovy Vary and the Bohemian Countryside

Karlovy Vary has solid coverage throughout the colonnade area and town center. I got 55 Mbps consistently on T-Mobile LTE during the quieter off-peak season. The drive from Prague via the D6 motorway had uninterrupted 4G the entire way.

The Bohemian countryside between Prague and the German border is well-covered along main roads. I drove through Bohemian Switzerland National Park (Ceske Svycarsko) and had usable signal about 80% of the time. The Pravcicka Brana area had weak but present signal. Hiking trails deeper into the park lose coverage, so download your route maps in advance.

Kutna Hora has perfect coverage. It's close enough to Prague that the infrastructure is essentially urban-grade.

Airport SIM vs eSIM: The Prague Comparison

Vaclav Havel Airport has SIM card vending machines and a Vodafone shop in the arrivals hall. A Vodafone tourist SIM costs 499 CZK ($22) for 10GB over 30 days, including a Czech phone number and some calling minutes. T-Mobile tourist SIMs are available at city shops (not the airport) for 399 CZK ($17.50) for 10GB.

The best eSIM equivalent is the Maya 10GB for $14 or the Nomad 5GB for $9. The eSIM wins on price for data-only needs. The local SIM wins if you need a Czech phone number for restaurant reservations or local contacts. For most tourists on a week-long trip, the eSIM is the better deal and you skip the queue entirely.

Practical Tips for the Czech Republic

Google Maps works well for Prague's trams, metro, and buses, but the official PID Litacka app is better. It has real-time tracking and you can buy transit tickets directly in the app for minimal data usage, maybe 5-10 MB per day.

Czechia is increasingly cashless, but some smaller places outside Prague still prefer cash CZK. You might need to find ATMs occasionally, and Google Maps with data is the easiest way to locate them.

Czech is not an easy language. Google Translate's camera feature (point at a menu, get English) is incredibly useful here and uses about 15-20 MB per session. Download the Czech language pack for offline use as backup.

In Prague, many popular restaurants use online booking through Restu.cz. Having mobile data to check availability and book on the spot saves you from walking to three fully-booked places during dinner rush.

My Recommendation

For a typical 5-10 day Czech trip, mostly Prague with maybe a day trip or two, grab the Maya 10GB eSIM for $14. It routes through the fastest network, gives you plenty of data, and costs less than the airport SIM alternatives. Activate it before you fly and you'll be connected before the plane reaches the gate.

On a tighter budget, the Nomad 5GB at $9 is a strong pick on the same T-Mobile network. And if you're staying longer than two weeks, consider the hybrid approach: eSIM for arrival day, then a T-Mobile tourist SIM from a city shop for the longer haul.

Czechia is a dream for mobile connectivity. The infrastructure is modern, the coverage is solid, and the beer is $2 a pint. You'll have a great time.
