Japan operates on a level of efficiency and thoughtfulness that most countries can only aspire to. Trains arrive on time to the second. Google Maps with transit directions is genuinely the most important tool for exploring Japan. The train system is magnificent but incredibly complex. Having real-time route guidance saves hours of confusion. Google Translate with camera mode reads Japanese menus and signs instantly.
Japanese mobile networks are among the best in the world. You'll have strong, fast connections in cities, on bullet trains, and even in most rural areas. Only deep mountain valleys and very remote islands pose any challenge.
