Greece's coverage story is pretty much: excellent in Athens, solid on the popular islands, variable on the smaller or less-visited ones.
If your Greece trip means Athens plus Santorini and Mykonos, you'll have zero connectivity problems. If you're doing a sailing trip through the Dodecanese or heading to tiny Cycladic islands, download your offline content before leaving the mainland.
Athens and mainland
Cosmote has the best overall network in Greece. 4G is reliable throughout central Athens - Plaka, the Acropolis area, Monastiraki, Exarcheia, Kolonaki. The Athens Metro has surprisingly decent signal for a city of that age and infrastructure.
Thessaloniki is well-covered. The mainland tourist areas - Meteora, Delphi, the Peloponnese - have solid coverage along major roads and in towns. The remote mountain areas of Epirus and parts of northern Greece can be patchy.
Major islands
Santorini: Oia, Fira, Imerovigli - all excellent. The caldera rim is well-covered. Even the black sand beaches at Perissa and Perivolos have 4G.
Mykonos: Saturated with coverage. You could post content from Scorpios or Little Venice without any issues.
Crete: Heraklion and Chania city centres are excellent. The north coast is consistently well-covered. The White Mountains interior and the south coast (Matala, Plakias, Paleochora) can be patchy. Samaria Gorge - the famous hike - has no signal for most of its length.
Rhodes: Good in Rhodes Town and the main resort areas. Rural interior of the island drops to 3G.
Corfu: Solid in Corfu Town and north coast resorts. Gets patchier in the south.
Smaller and less-visited islands
Ikaria, Tilos, Kasos - these have coverage in main villages but gaps elsewhere. The same applies to most of the smaller Cyclades (Folegandros, Sikinos, Anafi). If you're doing a deep Greek islands trip, offline maps are essential.
Plan options
Greece is part of most EU regional eSIM plans, so if you're visiting Greece as part of a broader European trip, your existing plan likely covers it. For Greece-only trips, a dedicated Greece plan or an EU plan is both available. Check /esim-in-greece. A 5GB plan for a week-long island holiday is comfortable.
