Scotland is two very different mobile experiences. Edinburgh and Glasgow? Solid coverage everywhere. The Highlands and islands? A patchwork of signal and silence.
Edinburgh and Lowlands
30-60 Mbps pretty much anywhere. A UK-wide eSIM plan works perfectly.
The Highlands
The A9 to Inverness has solid coverage. Branch off onto single-track roads towards the NC500 and you will encounter dead zones. Glen Coe is patchy. Loch Ness is decent along A82.
Isle of Skye
Portree has good coverage. Quiraing and Fairy Pools are hit-or-miss. Download hiking routes on offline maps beforehand.
Tips
EE has the best rural Highland coverage. Download offline maps for the entire Highlands region before leaving Edinburgh.
